<B>[George Washington] Messenger Pay Voucher</B></I> manuscript Document Signed, "<I>Wm Pitkin</B></I>", one page, 8" X 4", New Haven, Connecticut, November 5, 1776, to a John Lawrence. It reads, "<I>Sir, please to pay out of the Public Treasury to Mr. Tuley Blakely Seven pounds fourteen shillings in Bills for service in this state as Express to General Washington on two (of) several journeys allowed in Council</B></I>." Even toning, smoothed folds. Very good condition. Lot includes early engraved portrait of George Washington, 6" x 8", published by R. Cribb, London, 1799.
