"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Rare discharge document signed by Commanding General George Washington, dated 9 June 1783. Here, Washington approves the discharge of a soldier John Thayne during the last months of the American Revolution. Document reads in part, ''…having faithfully served the United States from the 9th August 1781 till the present period and being inlisted [sic] for the War only, is hereby Discharged from the American Army…Go. Washington''. Since the Treaty of Paris was not signed until September of 1783, printed upon the verso is the caveat, ''The within Certificate shall not avail the Bearer as a Discharge, until the Ratification of the definitive Treaty of Peace; previous to which Time, and until Proclamation thereof shall be made, He is to be considered as being on Furlough.'' Document measures 7.5'' x 10.25''. In very good condition with general wear and folds as expected of a Revolutionary War document. Document remains fully intact and Washington's signature is large and visible.
