George VI Brass Specimen Pattern 5 Cents 1937, Ex: Nor
George VI 5 Cents 1937 Brass Specimen Pattern, Ex: Norweb, Belzberg Collections, Charlton/DC-20, Specimen 64 PCGS. This was last offered in our January, 2003 sale of the Sid and Alicia Belzberg Collection where it was described, "Red and Brown color with superb definition and a few light spots. The late thirties was witness to tremendous economic activity in the British Commonwealth. The abdication of Edward VIII and ascension of George VI in a period of a few months put tremendous strain on the Royal Mint. The production of new matrices for the new monarch was contracted to the Paris Mint. Trial patterns were produced in brass and delivered to the Royal Mint for approval. There are records of 1 Cent through 50 Cent trials struck. We offer the extremely rare 5 Cent trial in this lot." Needless to say, this piece is one of only a very few extant.
From the Dominion Collection.
