George V Wreath crown, 1932. S-4036. 2,395 struck during the depression years. These were made primarily to be given as gifts in Christmas stockings, but many went into circulation as money was tight in those days. The old saying was that these were hardly known in any grade less than Mint State, but that belief has been reduced to a witch's tale by the advent of certified (and other, more personal, more strict) grading. The fact is, most Wreath crowns grade VF to AU and truly nice MS pieces are very scarce, in the case of some dates, and truly rare for other dates (1932 among them). This specimen is a handsome Uncirculated or Mint State coin with completely original silvery gold toning as it forms on these .500-fine pieces. Spink assigns a value of (in U.S. dollars) about $925, and this piece should be worth that, if any are. A few noticeable marks on the king's portrait are the only negatives.
