World War II-dated TLS signed "G. S. Patton, Jr.," one page, 7.25 x 8.5, Headquarters, Third United States Army letterhead, January 19, 1945. Letter to Tenney Williams, in full: "I deeply appreciate your letter of December 29 and the enclosed leaflet from the Church of Our Savior. I know that to such a patriotic and Christian man as yourself it is futile to sympathize, but I do congratulate you on having had a son who died for victory and for having another son who is so anxious to play his part. The Division to which he belongs is just about to join the Army." Double-matted and framed with a portrait to an overall size of 19.25 x 14.75. In very good condition, with overall creasing, and dampstaining to the right margin. Less than a year later, on December 8, 1945, Patton was involved in an automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. He died in his sleep 12 days later of a pulmonary edema and congestive heart failure.
