George S. Patton Autographed Letter Signed 1916 Fine George S. Patton Autograph Letter Signed
Fine George S. Patton Autograph Letter Signed incorporating three signatures and referencing his foray into Mexico with Pershing to capture Pancho Villa. Two sided pencil ALS, on 7.5" x 10" letter paper. Very strong handwriting (thankfully pencil does not fade), and essentially very fine. Written to his mother from Columbus, New Mexico, Jan 1, 1916, and signed "Your devoted son, George S. Patton, Jr".

In addition to the usual family chatter, Patton writes that "I have seen Mexico now in all seasons and it is worse in each except that perhaps August and September are a little hotter. It is not really cold just windy and nasty so one does not want to get out of the house".

During the Mexican Border Campaign of 1916 Patton was assigned to the 13th Cavalry, and accompanied Gen. Pershing as his aide during the expedition in pursuit of Pancho Villa. He tracked down and killed the head of Villa's personal guard. For this, as well as for his affinity for the Colt "Peacemaker" revolver, Pershing dubbed Patton his "Bandito". Patton's success in Mexico brought his first notoriety in the United States.

Accompanied by the original envelope which he has signed twice, once as a free frank and once as part of the address to his mother "(Mrs) Geo. S. Patton". A fine letter from this popular and highly collectable American military giant.
