Pulitzer Prize–winning American critic, humorist, and playwright (1889–1961) of such classics as You Can’t Take It with You and The Man Who Came to Dinner. TLS signed “George,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, no date. Letter to Jack L. Warner. In part: “I take it you’ll make an early fall trip down here, as usual…At the moment I’m rather too deep in musical show rehearsals, and a dullish fellow with only one idea in the world - which is to kill all musical comedy actors and take up monastery work in earnest.” Also included is an unsigned Western Union telegram to Warner, which reads, “Marooned out here I have just heard of your loss. My most heartfelt sympathy to your mother and yourself. Please forgive my tardiness.” In very good condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold to letter, as well as a block of toning over text and signature. Telegram also rates very good.
