Confederate naval commander (1799–1878). War-dated LS signed “G. N. Hollins, Flag Officer C. S. Navy,” one page, 7.75 x 5.5, February 23, 1863. Short letter to General John H. Winder. In full: “Mr. P. Dugan wishes to procure a passport to Baltimore. I cheerfully vouch for his loyalty and recommend him to your favorable consideration.” A couple small separations along intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, mounting remnant to reverse and a small tear to top edge, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned carte-de-visite portrait.
