Actor and politician (1902–1992) famous as a song-and-dance man, appearing in many big-budget musicals. In 1951, he was awarded an honorary Academy Award, although he was never nominated for an Oscar in any competitive category. He retired as an actor in 1952, and went on to serve as a US Senator from California. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 MGM publicity photo of Murphy in a pin-stripe suit, signed and inscribed in person in fountain pen, “To Saul, George Murphy.” Reverse of photo bears collector’s stamp date of May 20, 1941, the date the signature was acquired.
