American labor leader (1894–1955) who let the AFL and the AFL-CIO from 1955 to 1979. Matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Meany in a haze of cigar smoke, signed in blue felt tip; and a one-page TLS, 8.5 x 11, AFL-CIO letterhead, dated October 29, 1971. Meany responds to a collector. In part: “I am more than happy to send you one of my autographed pictures to add to your collection.” In fine condition, with some scattered light creases to both pieces, and a bit of trivial toning to letter.
