The Westmorland Sterling Co., of Wallingford Connecticut was created in 1940 through the cooperative efforts fo Wearever Aluminum Inc. and Wallace silversmiths. War-time priorities made it necessary to diversify, hence the idea of selling sterling flatware on a direct-to-consumer basis was developed. Wearever developed the marketing programs and Wallace silversmiths manufactured five sterling silver flatware patterns, exclusive to that organization, in 1966 Wallace assumed the marketing responsibility for Wastmorland and reorganized the marketing program by establishing franchised dealers.
This pattern "George and Martha" was one of those patterns and was created in 1940, the pieces are marked with the Westmorland mark. There are six teaspoons and six place forks. The condition is very good and show signs of minimal use.
