American inventor and industrialist (1831–1897) best known for developing the first successful railroad sleeping car. ALS signed “Geo M. Pullman,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 6.75, personal letterhead, December 12, 1882. Letter to Mrs. Barrow, in full: “I share with your regret that you were not with us at the church service on Sunday at ‘Pullman.’ Perhaps, however, you will enjoy the visit more on some work-day, when all the wheels of industry are in motion. I am called to New York tonight, and so cannot accompany you myself; but if you will kindly call at the office on your way to the Van Buren St. station of the Illinois Central road, Mr. Weinsheimer, the Secretary, will send an escort with you.” A horizontal fold (passing through the signature), mild paper loss and adhesive remnants to front left edge, and some spreading to ink in a few letters of the signature, otherwise fine condition.
