George IV Proof set 1821. Laureate head. An extremely rare item that appears to be an intact, original set, as the toning matches on all pieces and it comes with an original velvet-lined box (the first the cataloger has seen). The quality is not superb but it is quite nice, and the set consists of the following six coins, all graded by NGC: Sixpence S-3813 PR64, Shilling S-3810 PR64, Halfcrown S-3807 PR62, Crown SECUNDO edge S-3805 PR64, Half Sovereign S-3802 PR63, and Sovereign S-3800 PR64. The silver is medium gray with bluish tints. The gold shows moderate cameos and old-time color. The plush case is broken at the hinges but otherwise is in remarkably fine condition, showing great care taken for it over the nearly 200 years since it was issued. This is truly an unusual opportunity to obtain, intact, one of the rarest British Proof sets. Mintage was very small but the exact number struck is not recorded. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
