George IV Proof Half-Sovereign, 1826. Bare Head. S-3804. Very rare, its mintage unknown but always claimed to be just a few hundred pieces, for the sets struck in this year to demark the new design, which was selected by the king himself as he felt it was most flattering. Tightly graded PR64 CAM by PCGS: Superb Choice Proof with glowing old-gold toning and simply gorgeous, deeply mirrored surfaces exhibiting the much-desired orange-peel quality of fine Proofs. Only light cameo contrast to the portrait and in the reverse shield, as is typical of this issue, for the dies were lapped at the mint without intention to produce a cameo effect. This example is one of the finest this cataloguer has seen, a virtual Gem worthy of spirited bidding.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
