George IV Era Legal Writ
Legal Writ Issued by the Exchequer During the Reign of George IV. 9.75” x 6.75”, circa 1830, written in a very small hand, some toning mainly at the edges, old fold creases, else in very good condition. This intriguing document commands the Sheriffs of London to “distrain the Governor and company of the Bank of England by all their Lands and chattels in your Bailiwick so that they or any of them do not intermeddle therewith until otherwise commanded…”. Apparently a complaint was filed by one James Coppock and other complainants initiated the action. This document surely merits additional research. George IV died shortly after this writ was issued.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
