George III bronzed Proof set, 1805. A well-matched set George III bronzed Proof set, 1805.
George III bronzed Proof set, 1805. A well-matched set of four coins, consisting of the following: 1805 twopence, P-1313 (very scarce); 1805 penny, P-1296 (extremely rare); 1805 halfpenny, P-1309 (very scarce); and 1805 farthing, P-1317 (very rare). Choice Proofs, each enjoying a similar bronzed appearance. Excellent eye-appeal for coins of this ever-popular era, marking the end of King George's rule and the beginning of the Regency period: the king suffered from inherited porphyria, a blood disease which mimicked insanity, and from 1787 onward his position as titular head of state was occupied by his bon-vivant eldest son. When these very coins were being minted, it is likely that the prince was taking the air down at Brighton, one of his many holiday spots. The coins recall the joyful essence of their day, and this delightful set is sure to draw numerous bids from eager collectors or fanciers of the Georgian Age.
