<B>George II Half-Guinea, 1759.</B></I> Old laureate head. S-3685. Coined near the end of the 33-year reign of this, the second Hanover king. Another marvelous piece! So rare to see one, let alone a second example. This specimen is truly extraordinary! MS64 PCGS but the cataloguer is stunned by this number grade because the coin is in truth Gem Uncirculated, tied with perhaps two or three others for the finest this cataloguer has seen in some 30 years of handling and cataloguing the very finest British coins. Similar to the preceding lot, it exhibits bright satiny luster and an essentially perfect, sharp strike from relatively fresh dies (only the "S" in the king's Latin name shows a tiny clump of extra metal, whereas all the other letters of the legends are clear and sharply defined). All the details of the portrait and of the reverse shield are crisp, and the surfaces are gleaming, with nary a blemish, even the tiniest. This date usually appears struck from rusted, old dies and on an inferior flan.
