Maj. 3rd Arty., Comdng Post,” one page, lightly-lined, 8 x 9.75, January 4, 1857. Letter to Brevet Major General R. Jones, Adjutant General of the US Army. In full: “There being no Medical Officer at this Post, I have continued the contract of Dr. J. A. Weatherly agreeably to the terms of his contract with Bvt. Maj. Genl. D. E. Twiggs (until a Medical Officer can be sent to this post.)” In fine condition, with a bit of mild toning along horizontal folds.
