George Gershwin (1898-1937), the American composer, wrote pieces for Broadway and the classical concert hall, along with popular songs for the wider public. His music was used on both television and in films, and his musical legacy was honoured with a posthumous Academy Award nomination at the 1937 Oscars for Best Original Song.
This charming vintage photograph measures 9¼" x 7½". The inscription reads, "Eddie With all the Best, George". The autograph is particularly fine, underlined and written in black ink.
The photograph is in fine condition with some light creasing along the upper left edge.
Below the signature, Gershwin has written some musical notation, "A la Charleston". The treble clef piano piece is an exceptional feature of this item.
