American songwriter (1820–1895) who found particular fame during the Civil War for his patriotic songs. AQS on an off-white 3.5 x 2.5 card, signed “Geo. F. Root, Feb. 1892.” Root pens five lines of lyrics from one of his songs. In part: “Why do you wait dear brother, / Oh why do you tarry so long? / Your Savior in mercy would give you / A place in this sanctified throng. / Why not come to Him now?” In fine condition, with the writing a shade light.
