George Evans - National Lampoon Presents the Very
George Evans - National Lampoon Presents the Very Large Book of Comical Funnies, World War II War Comic Parody Cover Original Art (National Lampoon, circa 1976). During the Golden Age of comics, the Axis foes of World War II were dehumanized and savaged by such talented cartoonists as Alex Schomburg, Jack Kirby, Jack Cole, Charles Biro, and so many others -- their graphic barbs were all part of the comics field's gung-ho response to Pearl Harbor! Leave it to the National Lampoon to turn the tables, decades later, and present an unsettling glimpse at what those propagandistic war-time covers would have looked like had they been drawn for a Japanese company! George Evans, no stranger to war comics with his work for Fiction House, EC, and DC comics, drew a hard-hitting twist to this Pacific battle scene. The image area of the cover measures approximately 10" x 14". Aside from a glue stain at the top of the page, outside of the image area, and a missing piece of type in the word balloon at the upper right, the art is in Excellent condition. George Evans signed the page at the lower right.
