American inventor and entrepreneur (1854–1932), founder of the Eastman Kodak company, whose invention of roll film revolutionized photography and helped make the once-specialized art and craft a popular pastime. TLS signed “Geo. Eastman,” one page, 7.5 x 9, Office of George Eastman letterhead, May 11, 1931. Letter to Walter Russell in New York. In part: “I have been practically confined to the house for the past year, during which period the only visit I have made to New York was when the Society of the Genese gave me a dinner; so it is extremely unlikely that I shall be able to get to see the bust of Mr. Edison, which I regret very much.” Matted and framed with a portrait of Eastman and a small name plaque, to an overall size of 18.5 x 14.5. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, two affecting signature, a light shade of toning, some soiling to top edge, and a few wrinkles.
