First black world boxing champion in any weight class who claimed the world bantamweight title in 1888. Vintage ink signature, “Yours truly, Geo. E. Dixon, Aug. 29th 1900,” on an off-white 7.75 x 2 lightly-lined slip removed from a guest ledger. Consignor notes this was from the ledger at the camp of Robert Fitzsimmons while Fitzsimmons was preparing for his fights with Gus Ruhlin and Jack Sharkey at Bergin Beach. Slip is affixed to an identical size slip. In very good condition, with mild overall toning, heavier along bottom from adhesive, and an old repaired separation to top left corner. Pre-certified Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
