George Dixon 19th century cabinet card. The Canadian boxer of African descent won the world bantamweight championship in 1888 and the featherweight title in 1891, becoming the first black boxer to be a world champion and hold two titles. He is shown with his manager Tom O'Rourke. The photographer's name, [Elmer] Chickering, is handwritten on the photo. Information about Dixon is written below the 3.75'' x 5.75'' photo: ''George Dixon - World's champion FeatherWeight 115# / Born. Halifax. July 29, 1871''. Minor creasing, else very good.
