TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Navy Department letterhead, December 19, 1904. In a letter to Elmer Woodbury of Hotel Maryland, Dewey writes, in full: “Your letter of the 13th instant is at hand, and I am very glad indeed that you used my name as a reference in connection with your attempt to obtain the management of the Hotel St. Francis in San Francisco.” Intersecting folds, one of which only lightly grazes the first letter of the last name, scattered light surface creasing, and a uniform shade of light toning, otherwise fine condition.
