Once considered the U. S. Army’s greatest ‘Indian fighter’ after successes against the Apache, Crook participated in Grant’s November 3, 1875, ‘secret meeting’ that launched the Great Sioux War. AQS signed “George Crook, Maj. Gen. U. S. A.,” on a 4.25 x 2.75 card, Chicago, July 28, 1888. Crook pens a motivational quote, in full: “A sentiment is an unreliable measure of its author. ‘Actions speak louder than words.’” Scattered soiling, slight rippling to edges, and mounting remnants to reverse from previous display in a scrapbook, otherwise fine condition.
