Location:6270 Este Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45232, United States
hand-colored lithograph, plate 18, from Catlin's 1844 London edition of the North American Indian Portfolio (lithographs drawn by McGahey, printed by Day and Hagne), 14.75" x 20", matted and framed, 23" x 27.5".

In 1830, George Catlin (1796-1872) traveled to St. Louis. From there he spent the next few years with the various tribes along the Platte and Missouri Rivers, and farther west. His goal was to preserve, on canvas, these vanishing peoples. He produced 500 paintings as he traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe, and, in 1844, they were published as his North American Indian Portfolio. His works can be seen in the Smithsonian Institute and the Virginia Historical Society.

Condition: Light soiling on lithograph; light toning.
