Vintage printed quotation (contemporary to the item and not added at a later date) on a cream 5 x 3 card, signed in fountain pen “G. C. Marshall” as Chief of Staff. The quotation reads, in full: “We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle, Our Flag will be recognized throughout the World as a symbol of Freedom on the one hand and of Overwhelming Power on the other.” In fine condition, with a bit of light toning, and mounting remnants to reverse. The combined strength and poignancy of General Marshall’s message was so great that an example of the signed quotation here offered was engraved on the northern wall of the National World War II Memorial in Washington.
