Early TLS signed with a seldom-seen “G. C. Marshall, Jr.,” one page, 7 x 9, American Expeditionary Forces, Office of the Commander in Chief letterhead, December 21, 1919. Colonel Marshall responds to D. A. Long, publisher of the Lowell Sunday Telegram, in full: “General Pershing has received your letter of December 16th, which was forwarded to him from Washington, and he appreciates very much your courtesy in writing him asking for a message for the residents of the Lowell indsutrial [sic] community. Due to the large number of requests of this nature which the General has received, and the very strenuous inspection trip in which he is now engaged, he has not found it possible to prepare such a statement.” In fine condition, with a central vertical fold and uniform toning. A letter bearing fantastic association between Pershing, a legendary WWI general, and Marshall, who would come into his own greatness for leadership of the Allied victory in WWII.
