Commander of all Air Forces in the Pacific during World War II (1889–1977). War-dated TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Headquarters Allied Air Forces Southwest Pacific Area letterhead, July 2, 1945. Letter of commendation to Walter J. Fletcher. In full: “1. Your commendable action as assistant radio operator on a B-24 type aircraft during a strike mission over Balikpapan, Borneo on 14 October 1944 has been brought to my attention. I wish to express my appreciation of your outstanding performance on this mission. 2. It is through the devotion to duty of men such as yourself that the Far East Air Forces have been able to achieve their repeated successes. You have rendered a material contribution to the effective prosecution of the war and to our ultimate victory.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds,one through a single letter of signature, toning, and creases and wrinkles.
