ALS signed “George,” both sides of a 6.5 x 4.5 personal note card, dated February 5. Bush writes “Captain Bruce.” In full: “Don’t worry I won’t run aground. Loeb injected my name into the N.H. fight I didn’t—a year ago they didn’t take me seriously. Now I’ll win it. See you this summer.” In fine condition, with creased bottom left corner, tiny bend to the lower right corner, and a few spots of soiling. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope postmarked February 5, 1979. The GOP New Hampshire primary was captured by Ronald Reagan over runner-up Bush by 39,540 votes. Reagan’s victory dramatically reshaped a race that had already made headlines when Bush upset Reagan in Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses in January. Although Bush didn’t “win it” on his own in the 1980 presidential election, his prediction was correct from a certain point of view, as he was part of the winning ticket as Reagan’s running mate.
