ALS signed “G. Bernard Shaw,” on the correspondence side of a 3.5 x 5.5 picture postcard of Shaw, dated January 17, 1949. Brief letter to the author of his biography, Henry Charles Duffin, written while in Ayot Saint Lawrence. In full: “Have a look at the current Times Literary Supplement. Quintessences have now become soft soap.” In fine condition, with rusty paperclip mark to letter side, a crease to lower right corner, and silvering and surface marks to image side. Accompanied by a typed manuscript of correspondence between Shaw and Duffin from between 1919 and 1922, the galley proofs of “Quintessence,” with several corrections and notations in Shaw’s hand.
