Cartoonist (1915–1975) who became prominent during World War II as the creator of the popular comic strip, The Sad Sack. ALS signed “B. B.,” one notebook page, lightly-lined, 8.5 x 11, no date (but circa 1958-59 given its ‘Anatomy of a Murder’ reference). Baker writes his long-time companion, Suzanne LaFrance. In part: “The blue mood is all gone. Had another relaxing day paying tennis with Goldwyn and Carlos. I had just been cooped up too long and now things look much brighter. I’m sending the Sad Sack books to Alfred and suggesting that he use them for the comic books. The material in the books approximate few years of comic strips so its as if I had continued the strip few more years…I’m having dinner at Dave Golding’s tonight. He has a new job with Otto Preminger that will take Dave back east. He leaves this week for Michigan for the ‘Anatomy of Murder’ set.” He has added a colorful and comical sketch around three sides of the page. In fine condition with a few creases and wrinkles touching a few words and parts of the drawing, areas of toning, and faint mirroring of ink. Fantastic content, whimsically illustrated!
