Union general (1826–1885) hailed at the beginning of the Civil War as the ‘Young Napoleon,’ who was defeated for the presidency in 1864 by Abraham Lincoln. ALS signed “Geo. McClellan,” one page, 8 x 8.5, The National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers letterhead, June 10, 1882. In part: “I enclose some papers sent to me from Hampton…I know nothing of the case beyond what is there in the papers.” Central vertical and horizontal folds, light toning, a tiny repaired edge tear, and show-through from a mounting strip on the reverse, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned magazine photo of McClellan.
