Union general (1826–1885) hailed at the beginning of the Civil War as the ‘Young Napoleon,’ who was defeated for the presidency in 1864 by Abraham Lincoln. Rare Civil War-era hand-addressed and free-franked mailing envelope, 5.5 x 3, addressed in McClellan’s hand to “Brig Genl Stewart Van Vliet, Chief Qtr Mr, Army Potomac,” franked in the upper right, “Geo. B. McClellan.” A horizontal fold, scattered creases, and tiny tear to upper left corner, otherwise fine condition.
