ALS signed “Geo. McClellan,” one page, lightly-lined, 8.25 x 11, National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers letterhead, November 13, 1883. Letter to “Frank.” In part: “I got through at Hampton on Thursday evening & left for Washington…to attend Randolph’s funeral…& I did not get home until later Saturday. Billings says the site is admirable, & he will go into the matter with the hope of making it the best military hospital in this country. He will arrange with his backer…as to terms & will submit to me for approval. Jules will stop on in…on his way back from Dayton & will confer with B. from time to time.” Double matted and framed with a portrait of McClellan and a name plaque to an overall size of 22.5 x 19. Intersecting folds, thumbprint near signature, some scattered light soiling and toning, otherwise fine condition. Lengthy handwritten material from McClellan is scarce.
