Note
George Augustus Williams was one of the more prolific landscape painters of the Williams family. He was the son of the artist Edward Old Williams (1782-1855) and his five brothers who were also artists included S. R. Percy (1821-1886). He showed the highest total number of works in the London exhibitions but in spite of his abundant output the standard of his work was always consistently high. Some critics consider that he was the most talented of all the Williams brothers. He lived in Barnes, London for over fifty years within sight of the Thames, which he often used as the subject of his paintings. As well as the Thames Valley, George Augustus also liked to paint the Welsh and Kent countryside. Reference: Burlington Paintings, London; Biography of G.A. Williams.
