American avant-garde composer, pianist, author and inventor (1900–1959) who co-patented a ‘Secret Communications System’ with actress Hedy Lamarr in 1941. TLS signed “George,” one onionskin page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, June 8, 1957. Letter to 20th Century Fox production head Buddy Adler, in part: “(I address you as ‘Buddy’ because, although we have not seen one another in many years, still I cannot quite address my old co-writer in the Short Department of M.G.M. as ‘Mr. Adler.’) As you know I have given up writing words for musical notes many years ago, thus returning to my first love, musical composition. In the course of these years I have written many musical scores for motion pictures. Recently I have written the score for Stanley Kramer’s The Pride and the Passion, a hugh score of 2 hours for a picture which last 2 1/2 hours, which means that most of it is underscored. Kramer is quite wildly enthusiastic about the score; should you have occasion to ever talk to him about it, I am sure he will give this impression.” In fine condition. Accompanied by Adler’s unsigned response.
