"Civil War general and Indian fighter, Custer distinguished himself as a cavalry commander. He became a brigadier general of volunteers at age 23. Following the war he became field commander of the 7th Cavalry. He was killed with all of his immediate command in the battle of Little Bighorn on June 25, 1876. Partial mailing envelope, 3.25 x 3, signed in fountain pen, 'Genl. Custer, Monroe, Mich.' Postmark over top of the 'C' in Custer, closely trimmed right edge and a small tear to bottom edge, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a handsome portrait engraving, ideal for display along with the signature."
