Broadside, General Washington. One page,15.5" x 19", W.P. Blake, London, 1800. Published some seven months after Washington's death, this gushing British eulogy to a former foe nearly deifies George Washington. If the prose lauding this "great and good man" wasn't enough, the publisher tops the memorial with an engraving of a stolid rock being battered by howling winds and a raging sea. The rock is labeled "Washington", of course. Interestingly the engraving is bordered by a garland of oak leaves, which were symbolic of the First Citizen in ancient Rome. Even toning with very light foxing. Fine condition.
