Geological and Geographical Atlas of Colorado and Portions of Adjacent Territory by F.V. Haden, U.S. Geologist in Charge. Julius Bien, Litho. Sticker on title page indicates this copy "With the compliments of the Secretary of the Interior." Inside of front cover has sticker: "California Academy of Sciences---Received by Purchase July 29, 1909 from Dr. Gustav Hambach." Black binding with gold lettering on front. From Haden's Legend: "This Atlas is composed of two series of maps: the first, of four sheets, on a scale of twelve miles to one inch, each covering the whole State of Colorado; the second, of twelve sheets, (six topographical and six geological, of identical areas,) on a scale of four miles to one inch, each sheet embracing two and one-half degrees of Longitude and one and one-quarter degrees of Latitude, the whole presenting the results of the field work of 1873, '74, '75 and '76, covering the entire State of Colorado and adjacent portions of Utah, Arizona and New Mexico." Gustav Hambach (1837-1922) was a respected geologist and head of the geology department at Washington University in St. Luis. He studied in Yellowstone and Yosemite and published numerous books on geology. Condition: some chips and paint on outer cover, inner page ripped. Title page and maps are in very good condition, with occasional soiling. Foxing on the outside edges of pages. Binding starting to come undone. Measures 27" x 20 1/4"City: County: State: CODate:
