WATSON, FREDERIC. A New and Complete Geographical Dictionary. Containing a full and accurate Description of the several Parts of the Known World, as divided into Continents, Islands, Oceans, Seas, Rivers, Lakes, &c. The Situation, Extent, and Boundaries, of the Empires, Kingdoms, Provinces, States, &c. in Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. London: Printed for the Authors, and sold by G. Kearsley, and all other Booksellers in Great Britain and Ireland, 1773. Folio (14 1/2 x 10 in.). Full leather with six raised bands and gilt red leather label to spine. Engraved frontispiece followed by a fold-out double hemisphere map of the world, 17 further engraved maps, and 30 engraved illustrations (appears complete). What looks to be a contemporary inscription on endpaper: "Thomas Pearson's Book." Fair Condition. The covers are nearly detached, stains, allover scratching and rubbing, including to the spine. Edgewear and leather losses to the extremeties, wormhole to front cover. Repairs include the free endpaper reattached with a strip of brown tape, and a clear tape repair on 3-in. tear to frontispiece. 1 1/2-in. tear to title page. Foxing/toning throughout. Inner back hinge is split and the last two pages of the book are repaired/taped to back board.
