This exceedingly rare and valuable Kwele Kuk (Forest Spirit) Mask, from a private New York collector, is of the same sculptural quality as the famous Kwele mask with encircling horns that was collected near Sembe in the 1920's by Alexandre Petit-Renaud, and donated to the Museum of Natural History in La Rochelle, France. It is also comparable to the one in the Musee de l'Homme. Similar masks have sold for tens of thousands of dollars, but because this one bears some native repair (it is otherwise stunning and in Very Good Condition), it may very well be the last old genuine Kwele mask to be available at an affordable price. 23 x 15.5 inches, 58 x 39 cm. From a renowned and published collection in New York.
