<B>General Winfield Scott Hancock- Two Autograph Letters Signed</B></I> and one Letter Signed, all "<I>Winfd Hancock</B></I>". The first ALS: two pages, 5" x 8", Governor's Island, New York, January 15, 1879, to D. F. Seeger, president of the Charity Association. He sends thanks and regrets for an invitation to the Flower Party of the YMCA of New York. Known to his colleagues as "Hancock the Superb," he was named after General Winfield Scott under whom he served in the Mexican War. Fine condition, light folds and minor soiling, hinged to a larger sheet. <BR><BR>Second ALS: two pages, 5" x 8", Governor's Island letterhead, January 20, 1880, to the same individual as above. Sending regrets for having mislaid an invitation to a party. Fine condition with light folds and soiling on the first page. <BR><BR>The LS: one page, 5" x 7.25", Governor's Island, New York, April 23, 1885, to Major N. E. Furness. Winfield sends thanks for a menu and list of toasts from a dinner in Chicago. Very good condition with light soiling and binding holes at the right edge. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
