General Winfield Scott Autograph Letter Signed
General Winfield Scott Autograph Letter Signed "Winfield Scott". Four pages, 4.5" x 7", New Orleans, January 31, 1866, to Brigadier General S. Van Vliet. General Scott, though elderly at the start of the Civil War was the Union general in chief. Though quickly replaced shortly after the war commenced Scott's Anaconda Plan, though highly criticized was, in broad terms, the plan that ultimately defeated the South. Scott's health suffered as the war progressed. In this letter, largely regarding administrative matters, Scott does remark on the state of his health: "With several changes in my maladies, I think I am a slight gainer in health since I left N. York." The letter has the usual fold creases with a few small stains, else it is written in Scott's bold, but shaky, hand. Very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
