General William Tecumseh Sherman LS and Sig. General William Tecumseh Sherman Letter Signed and Sign
General William Tecumseh Sherman Letter Signed and Signature. This lot features two items signed by the famous Union Army general. Sherman's "scorched earth" policy ravaged some parts of the south during the Civil War. He and his men bragged that in Georgia alone they had caused $100,000,000 worth of damage. The first item in the lot is a clipped signature, it measures 3.5" x 2.1" and is signed, "W.T. Sherman, General." The second item is a letter signed "W.T. Sherman." Two pages, 5.5" x 9.25", New York, June 9, 1890. The content of the letter is routine. Sherman regrets that he is unable to attend the Soldiers and Sailors National Reunion at Caldwell.

The items are both in very fine condition; the letter has the usual folds present and some slight staining on the edges. The signature has pencil notations on the lower corners and some light staining. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
