<B>General William Tecumseh Sherman Autograph Letter Signed,</B></I> "<I>W.T. Sherman General,</B></I>" one page, 10.25" x 8", Washington, April 7, 1876. This letter was written to J. R. Hawley, in response to his request for Alexander and Barton. Hawley is General Joseph Roswell Hawley, who was governor of Connecticut and Chairman of the Republican National Convention in 1868. The men he requested are likely two high ranking Union officers: Luther Prentice Bradley and Barton Alexander. The letter reads in total, "<I>Yours of yesterday is received - Bradley and Alexander are ordered - and when they come you will have two Representative men - The other remains on the detail by reason of personal considerations.
