General Omar Bradley's Personal Thermos
General Omar Bradley's Personal Thermos With Letter of Provenance. A thermos in a fine leather protective case, 14.5 long x 4.5" in diameter, with a lid held in place by a strap with two buckles. The bottom of the leather case is marked "London Made" in gilt letters. Most notably however is the addition of three silver metal stars mounted to the lid of the case with "General Omar Bradley" in gilt letters below. The three stars denote Bradley's wartime rank of Lieutenant General. Accompanying the thermos is an undated one page typed letter, 6" x 9.75", on U.S. Air Corps letterhead from Richard Trousdale of Buffalo, New York which reads in part: "…As you know, my uncle was Sergeant Richard M, Dudley of Scarsdale, N.Y. He served as General Bradleys sic personal cook during part of the war…he actually turned down a direct officers commission from Bradley during the war in fear of losing his position with the general…the thermos was given to him by the general along with other tokens of his appreciation for the fine job that he did with limited supplies during the war." The thermos is in very good condition with light wear to the surfaces and darkening to the lid from use. The letter has been folded and is toned with age. There is a small 1.25" portion of the bottom left corner missing which doesn't affect text. General Bradley (1893-1981) was one of the main army field commanders in North Africa and Europe during WWII.

Shipping: Large Collectibles (view shipping information)
