<B> General John Thompson (Inventor of the Tommy Gun) Autograph Letter Signed </B></I> "<I>Jno. T. Thompson.</B></I>" One page, 5" x 8", Springfield Armory Stationery, Springfield, Massachusetts, October 29, 1903. This letter was written to Mr. Albert H. Cole in Peru, Indiana; it reads in part, "<I>…I appreciate very much your sending me an invitation for your graduation exercises some time ago. The best thing I could wish you is that you may make as fine a man, in every respect, as your father. I hope that you and my boy (now at West Point) may meet sometime…</B></I>" John Thompson developed his ideas for the Thompson Sub-machine gun over several years throughout the Spanish-American War and World War I. Shortly after his death at the very beginning of WWII, large numbers of the Tommy Gun were ordered and used extensively during that war.<BR><BR> The letter is in very fine condition; usual folds are present; slight age discoloration on the left and lower edge; has been deacidified.
