<B>General John J. Pershing Typed Letter Signed as Army Chief of Staff</B></I> "<I>John J. Pershing</B></I>". One page, 8" x 10.5", on War Department Office of the Chief of Staff, Washington, February 6, 1923, to Major Norman H. Davis, retired, Big Sur, California. In this letter Pershing approves Major Davis's retirement request writing in part: "As a consequence of Congressional action, reducing the strength of the commissioned personnel of the Army, your application for retirement has been approved by the President. I desire to express my regret at your determination to retire at this time and, in the name of the service of which we are both a part, I extend to you all good wishes for your future success and happiness."
